Google Folder - List View
Google Folder - Grid View
Embed Code App - Embedded Google Doc
-
Google Folder Pros
- Very easy to mass upload a bunch of files.
- If you update the folder on Google Drive, your website is automatically updated.
- Can restrict viewership through Google permissions.
-
Google Folder Cons
- Files always display in alphabetical order (but you can manipulate file names to force them into your desired order)
- Name of person who last updated file displays in List View.
- Must be careful about adding not adding private documents into a shared folder.
- Consider ownership of the shared folder; if that person leaves the district, the folder is deleted so the app will be blank.
- This can be mitigated by sharing a folder that belongs to a generic, evergreen account (Curriculum vs. Mary Smith).
-
Embedded Google Doc Pros & Cons
Pros:
- The file can be updated in Google Docs and the changes will reflect in the embedded version within a few minutes--helpful for files that are continuously updated.
- Visitors can read the document right on your site without having to open Google Docs.
Cons:
- The document is not scanned by Ally for accessibility compliance.
- The document takes up a lot of real estate. If you need to share multiple documents, consider Google Folder or adding a Tabbed Widget.
