Raised in Sacramento by a struggling single mother; Jessie’s mom taught her that education was the key to opportunity in life. A proud product of public education, Jessie has spent the past nine years at the Campaign for College Opportunity where she works to increase college access and success for young people across the state. She successfully led efforts to improve college opportunities for thousands of low-income students in California and simplify the transfer process from community colleges to four-year universities.
Jessie lives in Oak Park with her husband, Arsenio Mataka, Assistant Secretary for Environmental Justice at the CalEPA, and their two children Brooklynne and Tristan. She holds a B.A. from San Francisco State University and an M.A. from St. Mary’s College.
