Description

The New Superintendents' Academy is a three-part program designed to provide practical experience to chief school administrators whether they are new to the position, new to their district, or new to Pennsylvania. Sessions will be led by experienced superintendents in Pennsylvania and will offer participants information and advice for assuming their new leadership roles. Each of the three sessions will focus on a different theme and offer participants practical advice on issues that will confront them as they prepare for and enter a new position.

Part 1 - Entry!  This program will focus on the entry process, leading with the board to create a culture of teaching and learning, working with the Department of Education, the superintendent's role as ethical leader, team building, the superintendent as advocate, and wellness for school leaders.

Part 2 - Communications. This program will center on communication.  Discussions will focus on communication systems,  communicating with the board, staff and the public, social media/cyberbullying, communicating during a crisis and interacting with the press.

Part 3 - Data & Evaluation. This program will focus on data and evaluation.  Discussion will focus on using data to inform decision-making, working with the Business Manager and Board in budgeting and fiscal management, and the use of various evaluation tools.

NOTE: Although the programs are sequential, superintendents are urged to take all three programs as they are able.
